Exam Week | Homeschool

Hello! It's been a while, well that's because I've been studying and then taking tests for the past few weeks. Taking exams when you are homeshooled is way different from my expirience in traditional school. And here is why: In traditional school, the teachers decide which exams you take first, but in homeschool,  you decide which exams to take first (Neat, isn't it?). Another thing is that the teachers always say: "Cover your papers...

Matilda | Book vs Film

So, one of my favorite and one of the first of  Roald Dahl's books that I have added to my library is the book entitled Matilda and  I have also watched the movie based on this book. So now, I'd like to compare the two: Matilda Wormwood, as I know, is a young girl who loves to read (so do I). But she has some mean parents and a big brother who like to watch TV all day long. And at school, she has the kindest teacher she's ever...

Piano Lessons At Home

I love music, and I love the piano. So, my grandfather gave me a keyboard that I can play at home. To me, playing the keyboard is quite easy once I knew the basics, like identifying the different keys. But if you'd like to know, there are three things that you really need to remember: Practice Persistence, and Enthusiasm Practice, well, of course everybody knows what practice is and, uh persistence means you keep trying and trying even...

Growing Oyster Mushrooms At Home

Maybe you like oyster mushrooms, my family and I love them. Sometimes, when my dad goes to the fresh market he sees them on display and buys some right away. The only problem is, the pack of oyster mushroom is a wee bit pricey, for the small amount in a pack. One day, however, my mom received a package of mushroom kits from PotHed Inc. She told me that they were gourmet mushroom kits, which lets us grow our own mushrooms at home. It takes...

He wrote amazing children's books such as James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, Fantastic Mr Fox, The BFG, The Twits, George's Marvellous Medicine and the Magic Finger. I have watched 2 movies based on some of his children books, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory plus Matilda which is one of my favorite films to date....

Matryoshka Dolls | The Little Hulk's Thing

Most young little rascals prefer having the latest everyone-wants-this toy. Not my little brother! The Little Hulk seems to like wooden matryoschka nesting dolls. Now, let me share with you what I know about these Russian wood crafts: "Matryoshka" are Russian wooden dolls with smaller dolls stacked within the bigger ones. In the province of Russia, the name Matryona or Matriyosha was a very popular name for girls. It was derived(to obtain something...

National Book Store | My Personal Store

Other kids prefer getting toys on their birthday or as a reward for doing good deeds, I don't. I love going on a shopping spree at the nearest National Book Store branch for books, and supplies. Whenever my Loly or Honey, who are both OFWs ask me what I want for a gift, they already know that a trip to National Book Store will be my answer. Since they both live in another country, they ask my aunt Jaja to go with me to National Book Store...

The Magic Tree House Series

After deciding to build our own library, my mom discovered a number of amazing book series that we could collect. One of them is the Magic Tree House series penned by Mary Pope Osborne. I already have a total of 19 books, the 3 you see in the photo are my mom's latest acquisitions for me from her book swap group she found on Facebook. She gets great deals by buying these secondhand books or what they call "preloved." I hope we get to collect...

Charlie and Lola Book Finds

For those of you who are not familiar with this particular TV show, Charlie and Lola is based on an award-winning book series written by Lauren Child. I first saw the show when we lived in Zambia, a country in the continent of South Africa, for almost 2 years. It was a hit series on the BBC channel for kids, CBeebies. The story is about Charlie who is always teaching his 4-year-old little sister, Lola, all sorts of things. Whether it's trying...
